How to Pick the Right Off-grid Solar Inverter

What should be considered when choosing an off-grid inverter? Generally speaking, the input and output voltage and the capacity of the inverter should be the first things to think about.

Choosing a suitable inverter is not that difficult if you follow these steps:

Let us assume that there's no grid connection and you rely entirely on your off-grid solar system.

In ideal conditions, if there are no losses, the Total Power Needed (calculated in Step 1) should be the inverter capacity. Unfortunately, this is usually not the case because there is a difference between the power which is specified in the Watt and Volt rating of electrical equipment.

Pure sine waveform inverters are the right choice because they have numerous advantages over modified sine waveform inverters.

Nearly all kinds of electrical home appliances can use pure sine wave inverters efficiently. Durability and safety can be guaranteed when using pure sine wave inverters.

On the other hand, modified sine wave inverters are less expensive and most commonly used in houses. But the major drawback is they are not compatible with all devices and may create excessive heat in appliances which will reduce durability and lifetime.

Compared to the pure sine wave inverter, modified sine wave inverters create more noise, and power surging can lead to malfunctioning of home appliances.
